Cristiano Ronaldo scores his 700th club goal as Manchester United come from behind to beat Everton 2-1 in the Premier League.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th club goal as Manchester United came from behind to record a 2-1 win over Everton in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

Alex Iwobi's brilliant strike with just five minutes on the clock sent the Toffees ahead at Goodison Park, but Antony's third Man United goal levelled the scores in the 15th minute, before Ronaldo came off the bench to score for the first time in the league this season just before the interval.

The result has moved the 20-time English champions into fifth spot in the Premier League table, one point behind fourth-placed Chelsea, while Everton sit 12th, boasting 10 points from their first nine matches.

Everton made the breakthrough in the fifth minute of the contest when a mistake from Casemiro in the middle of midfield led to Demarai Gray feeding Iwobi, who picked out the back of the net with a brilliant strike.

Man United were level in the 15th minute, though, when Anthony Martial's pass released Antony, who expertly picked out the bottom corner to make it three Premier League goals in his first three appearances for the club.

Jordan Pickford had to get down low to keep out a strike from Eriksen in the 20th minute, with the visitors enjoying a lot of the ball in forward areas; Martial came close to getting a shot away after smart footwork inside the box, but he was crowded out at the final moment.

Martial emerged as a doubt just before kickoff due to a hip issue that he suffered in the warm-up, and the Frenchman only lasted until the 28th minute, with Ronaldo introduced as his replacement.

Bruno Fernandes had the ball in the back of the Everton net in the 37th minute with a low strike, but the goal was disallowed, with Ronaldo offside earlier in the move.

Casemiro had a brilliant chance to score just before the interval when he met a deep cross from Marcus Rashford, but the Brazilian headed wide of the post.

Man United did lead late in the first period, though, with Ronaldo finding the back of the net with a fine finish following a pass from Casemiro to make it 700 professional goals in club football.

The goal was Ronaldo's first in the Premier League this season and just his second overall, with his only other strike in 2022-23 coming from the penalty spot against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League.

Clear chances were few and far between in the first half of the second period, but Ronaldo was a threat for Man United, while Anthony Gordon was the player carrying the fight for Everton down the other end.

Christian Eriksen hit one over the Everton crossbar 15 minutes from time before Rashford came close moments later, with the Red Devils threatening a third, which would have taken the game away from the Toffees.

Rashford thought that he had scored a third in the 81st minute when he bundled home after getting the better of Seamus Coleman and then Pickford, but his effort was chalked off for handball.

Amadou Onana had Everton's best chance of a leveller late on when he met a cross from Gray, but the ball flew wide, before De Gea clawed away a deep cross from James Garner, with the visitors holding on to secure all three points despite a host of late pressure.

Man United are next in action against Omonia in the Europa League on Thursday, while Everton will be looking to return to winning ways when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the league next weekend.
