Manchester United frontman Wayne Rooney has described the seven-goal first half at Reading this evening as "crazy".

All of the goals in the evening's Premier League kickoff came in the opening 45 as United won through 4-3 at the Madejski.

Speaking to ESPN afterwards, Rooney said of the first half: "It was crazy to be honest. [Our defending] wasn't good enough.

"Even though we went behind twice today, we believed we could win the game."

The England international offered sympathy to the linesman who failed to award Robin van Persie a second goal when his close-range shot crossed the line before Adrian Mariappa cleared.

"It certainly was over the line," Rooney added. "It is difficult for officials to see because it is so quick. But I'm sure in the future there will be technology."

Three points for Sir Alex Ferguson's side see them move three points clear of Manchester rivals City in the Premier League.
