Wayne Rooney: 'Juan Mata needs time'

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney believes that club-record signing Juan Mata needs time to settle at Old Trafford, following his move from Chelsea.

Wayne Rooney has admitted that it will take some time before Manchester United see the best of new signing Juan Mata.

The Spanish midfielder became United's club-record signing last month when he moved to Old Trafford from Chelsea for a fee of £37.1m.

Rooney has said that he is looking forward to playing alongside the 25-year-old on a regular basis.

"It's exciting. Juan has come in and it's another world-class player to have in the squad," Rooney told BT Sport.

"It'll take time - it can always take a little bit of time for every player to gel and to bond but we really hope we can all start scoring goals and help the team be successful."

United currently sit seventh in the Premier League.
