Wayne Rooney aims to break Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time goalscoring record for Manchester United.

Wayne Rooney has set his sights on becoming Manchester United's all-time record goalscorer.

The England international scored two free-kicks and a penalty as United defeated Arsenal 8-2 at Old Trafford yesterday, taking his total for the club to 152 goals.

Speaking to reporters after the match, the 25-year-old revealed he wants to beat Sir Bobby Charlton's long-standing total, which sits at 249 goals.

"I've had a good pre-season, worked hard and I want to do well," said Rooney. "I was aware before the game that one more goal would get me to 150.

"I asked how many Bobby Charlton had scored and Giggsy told me I need another 100 or so. Obviously that's the target now."

The former Everton striker has scored five goals in three Premier League matches this season.
