Paul Scholes: 'Wayne Rooney was the right choice as captain'

Ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes says that Wayne Rooney was the right man to take over the captaincy at Old Trafford.

Paul Scholes has stated that Wayne Rooney was the ideal man to take the captaincy at Manchester United.

The England striker was officially announced as the new United skipper last week, and Scholes thinks that the appointment was the correct one.

The former United midfielder told the Daily Mail: "He is an unbelievable footballer.

"He has been captaincy material for quite a while because he is vocal when he needs to be.

"He demands the best from his teammates and he isn't a shy lad."

Rooney took the armband following the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra.
