Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has insisted that manager Louis van Gaal is correct to question his fitness levels ahead of the new season.
Earlier this week, Van Gaal revealed that Shaw would work through an individual programme to improve his condition, and after featuring in United's penalty-shootout win over Inter Milan, the England international has admitted that his new boss has made the correct observation.
The 19-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It's something that I totally agree with. To be playing in this formation, you need to be really fit. I am fit, but I'm not at the level that he demands so I know for myself that I've got to get fitter to get up and down.
"That's something that I will be working on, and tonight in the 45 minutes that I played, I felt really good, so I'm looking forward to progressing and to the start of the season."
Shaw left Southampton for £30m earlier this summer to make the move to Old Trafford.
