Youngster Tom Thorpe is hoping to feature for the Manchester United senior side like Scott Wootton and Michael Keane.

Manchester United's Tom Thorpe has revealed that he is eager to follow in the footsteps of fellow young defenders Scott Wootton and Michael Keane.

The defensive duo both featured during United's 2-1 Capital One Cup victory over Newcastle United last month, while Wootton was also involved in the Champions League clash against CFR Cluj.

Asked by MUTV whether his target is to mimic Wootton and Keane's rise to the first team, Thorpe replied: "Yes, definitely. I think seeing them doing it makes you realise it's not that far away and you will get the opportunity to go on. Hopefully, I can keep progressing and do that.

"I think it's a lot about experience maybe - especially for Scott who has gone out on loan and has understood his role completely now. I probably just have to keep working hard, play well when I get the chance and show people what I can do."

Thorpe captained United's youth team to the FA Youth Cup in 2011.
