Manchester United 'to assemble three-man transfer committee'

Rio Ferdinand may reportedly be appointed by Manchester United as part of a three-man transfer committee to lead the club's search for new players.

Manchester United are reportedly tempted to assemble a transfer committee made up by three former players to help identify new targets.

The Red Devils have been on the lookout for a new technical director for a number of months to lead their search for recruits.

Rio Ferdinand and Darren Fletcher are two ex-United players to have been strongly tipped to take up the newly-created position and, according to The Sun, both men could yet be appointed.

The report indicates that the idea was discussed at Carrington earlier this week, while Nicky Butt's name was also mentioned.

Butt currently works with United's academy players, but it is claimed that he may now have a big say in first-team matters, alongside Ferdinand and Fletcher.

United, who have got through three managers in six years since Sir Alex Ferguson departed Old Trafford, finished the 2018-19 campaign sixth in the Premier League under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
