Former goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is in the running to become Manchester United's first ever director of football, according to a report.
United are reportedly planning to incorporate the new position as part of a backroom reshuffle following complaints from Jose Mourinho during the summer transfer window.
The Independent suggests that a four-man shortlist has been written up, with Van der Sar - a four-time Premier League winner with the Red Devils - among those being considered for the job.
Roma chief Monchi and Fabio Paratici of Juventus are also said to be under consideration, as is the less-heralded Domenico Teti, who is currently employed by Serie B side Novara.
The report suggests that the search is ongoing, with Monchi and Paratici currently viewed as the favourites for the position.
Van der Sar's legendary status at Old Trafford could help him, though, and he also boasts experience of working behind the scenes with Ajax.
