Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has hinted that Memphis Depay will be used a striker next season.
The Netherlands international was signed from PSV Eindhoven for around £25m earlier this summer and the Dutchman was expected to be deployed as a winger for the Red Devils.
However, United declined the chance to make Radamel Falcao's loan stay permanent and are yet to replace the Colombian, despite Robin van Persie's imminent switch to Fenerbahce.
Van Gaal is quoted as saying in The Express: "I have to see how we solve this problem and it is also one of the reasons that we have bought Memphis.
"You remember that he has played in the striker's position also in the Dutch team. He is one of the greatest talents of his age. We have to wait and see which position he can give the greatest benefit to the team."
United will tour the United States this month.
