Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that the signing of Memphis Depay was completed within 24 hours in order to see off interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
The club announced on Thursday that they had reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven to sign the Netherlands international in the summer, but Van Gaal has admitted that the winger almost penned a deal to move to PSG.
The Dutchman told reporters: "I was forced to handle the transfer as a manager because otherwise he was going to PSG.
"That's why I had to sign him and we've done it within one day."
The 21-year-old has netted 24 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions this season.
