Wayne Rooney wins court battle

Wayne Rooney wins court battle against former agents who claimed the England star owed them £4.3m in commission.

Wayne Rooney was won a multi-million pound battle with former agents who claimed the Manchester United star owed them £4.3m in commission.

Senior judges ruled today that an image rights representation agreement made with the star was an unreasonable restraint of trade.

Three appeal judges concluded that the agreement Rooney made with Proactive in 2003, when he was 17, was legally "unenforceable".

"I am delighted. I was stunned when Proactive claimed the amounts they did," said Rooney.

"Coleen and I have always been happy to pay proper commissions to the people who are owed them. But Proactive's claims for money after we left the company were a joke."

Rooney will be in action this weekend as his Manchester United side make the trip to the Midlands to face Aston Villa.
