Ashley Young willing to play as striker for Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal

Ashley Young says that he would play as a striker for Manchester United if selected by manager Louis van Gaal.

Ashley Young has insisted that he has no issues playing as a striker if he is called upon by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.

The club's go-to forward Wayne Rooney is currently nursing an injury, while summer signing Anthony Martial is still adjusting to life at Old Trafford.

Ahead of tonight's Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven, Van Gaal is facing some decisions over team selection.

With Memphis Depay seemingly taking Young's usual place on the left wing, the England international could be used further up the field.

"If the manager wants me to play as a striker, then yes, of course I would play there," FourFourTwo quotes Young as saying.

"I can play in lots of positions and I have done that under the manager, whether it's up front or in midfield. Hopefully I can play through the middle, but it's up to the manager and he has to make those decisions."

In the Premier League, United have won three, drawn one and lost one.
