Ashley Young questions "harsh" penalty decision in Arsenal defeat

Manchester United full-back Ashley Young does not believe that Arsenal should have been awarded their second-half penalty in Sunday's clash at the Emirates Stadium.

Ashley Young has hit out at the officials for awarding Arsenal a penalty in Manchester United's 2-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium.

Referee Jon Moss pointed to the penalty spot with a quarter of the game to go for Fred's challenge on Alexandre Lacazette.

Already a goal to the good thanks to Granit Xhaka's first-half strike, Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang buried the penalty to kill off the contest.

Young does not believe that Fred should have been penalised for making minimal contact with Lacazette inside the box, however, and the full-back also insists that his side deserved more from the match.

"Today is disappointing. I think even the penalty was harsh," he told reporters. "In my eyes it's never a penalty but it's up to the ref to make these decisions.

"It's disappointing when you come to a place like the Emirates and you create that many chances you should go on and win the game, so, for us, it's disappointing.

"Even when they got the first goal we created chances to win the game and on another day we take them and go home celebrating with three points."

United dropped to fifth in the Premier League following their defeat in North London - their first domestic loss during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's near-three months in charge.
