Premier League Team of the Week - Harry Kane, Bruno Fernandes, Timo Werner

Sports Mole selects its Premier League team of the week for gameweek five, including Harry Kane, Bruno Fernandes, Timo Werner, Thiago Alcantara and Marcus Rashford.

The most anticipated Merseyside derby in years did not disappoint as Premier League football returned after the international break this weekend.

A highly contentious and action-packed Merseyside derby ultimately ended 2-2 as the league leaders Everton held champions Liverpool to a draw, with some help from VAR along the way.

The result means that Aston Villa are the only remaining perfect team this season, with their late 1-0 triumph at Leicester City continuing their dream start to the campaign.

West Ham United pulled off one of the all-time great Premier League comebacks by coming from 3-0 down in the 82nd minute to draw 3-3 against bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who had raced into a three-goal lead within 20 minutes.

That was one of two 3-3 draws in another fascinating weekend, with Southampton also coming from behind to hold Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City and Manchester United both returned to winning ways against Arsenal and Newcastle United respectively, while Wolverhampton Wanderers rounded off the gameweek with a narrow victory at Leeds United.

The first goalless draw of the season finally arrived in the 47th game when Burnley drew with West Bromwich Albion, but it would not have been goalless without Nick Pope. The England international made a string of fine saves to keep the Baggies at bay, earning Burnley their first point of the season and pipping Ederson and Karl Darlow to a place in this XI in the process.

Wolves also kept a clean sheet on Monday night, and Max Kilman was key to that as well as registering an assist for Raul Jimenez's winner in a man-of-the-match display at Elland Road.

Manchester United are the best represented club in this week's team with their four goals at St James' Park being rewarded with four selections, two of which come in defence.

Harry Maguire overcame a difficult international break with England to get on the scoresheet and put in a display which quickly quietened suggestions that he needed time away from the spotlight. Aaron Wan-Bissaka also scored - his first goal for the club - as Man United blitzed Newcastle late on.

On the opposite flank, Lucas Digne produced an inch-perfect cross for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to score Everton's second equaliser against Liverpool, as well as managing to keep Mohamed Salah relatively quiet for the most part.

While Salah does deserve an honourable mention for his instinctive finish, it is his clubmates Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson who are Liverpool's only two representatives in this team.

Thiago brought class to the chaos of the derby with a midfield masterclass, making more passes and having more touches of the ball than anyone else on the pitch. Henderson was second in the list for passes, in addition to winning the ball back nine times and creating two goalscoring chances - not to mention scoring the stoppage-time 'winner' which was so controversially ruled out for offside.

Timo Werner finally got off the mark in the Premier League for Chelsea, and he did so in style too with two goals and an assist - although the performances of others in the centre-forward role this week forces him out wide right in our XI.

Werner is joined in the three behind the striker by a Manchester United duo, with Bruno Fernandes scoring one, assisting another, having one goal disallowed and missing a penalty during an eventful game against Newcastle.

Marcus Rashford, meanwhile, went even better with two assists and a goal, although like Werner he is pushed out wide despite registering that haul through the middle.

There was plenty of competition for those forward places this week too, with Ademola Lookman, Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, Sadio Mane, James Rodriguez and Manuel Lanzini all deserving mentions - the latter if only for his incredible last-minute equaliser for West Ham against Spurs.

Son Heung-min is also unfortunate to miss out after getting a goal and assist in Tottenham's early blitz in that game, but his partner in crime Harry Kane does lead the line after producing arguably the standout individual performance of the gameweek.

Tottenham's talisman was everywhere, acting as creator for Son's opener, scorer of the next two goals and also popping up in his own box to make some crucial blocks. Not even West Ham's spectacular comeback could detract from an outstanding performance for the England skipper, who beats Southampton duo Che Adams and Danny Ings to the centre-forward role.
