Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League table while Manchester City were in EFL Cup action this weekend, although they were unable to take full advantage of their game in hand as they were held to a goalless draw by Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Tottenham Hotspur could have given their title hopes a major boost by beating Burnley, but they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Turf Moor to instead suffer a significant setback in their challenge.

Liverpool may have put in one of their more toothless performances this season at Old Trafford, but their fate may have been much worse had Alisson Becker not kept them level with a brilliant piece of goalkeeping to prevent Jesse Lingard from rounding him and being left with a simple finish. The Brazilian was not overly worked, but came up with another big save in a crucial moment to earn his side a point.
Huddersfield's Jonas Lossl also deserves an honourable mention for his performance having made 10 saves against Newcastle, although he also conceded twice and almost committed a Massimo Taibi-esque howler at one stage too.
A lack of outstanding defensive performances - certainly in comparison to those further up the field - force us into an unorthodox 3-2-3-2 formation this week, and Burnley's James Tarkowski makes the cut as one of the three centre-backs having kept the returning Harry Kane and Son Heung-min largely quiet in Burnley's famous win over Tottenham.
Issa Diop was part of a West Ham defence which made a shaky start against Fulham, but he improved as the game went on and even got himself on the scoresheet too.
Manchester United's defence frustrated a Liverpool attack which had scored in every away league game this season before their visit to Old Trafford, and Victor Lindelof was at the heart of that to continue his improving form, while Luke Shaw deserves a mention for his role in marshalling Mohamed Salah.
The Newcastle fans look like they may have a new hero to worship as Miguel Almiron shone on his home debut, narrowly missing out on a goal to cap his performance when his clever chipped finish hit the post.
The attacking talent in front of Almiron in this team forces him into a slightly deeper role alongside Etienne Capoue, who registered an assist in the 5-1 win over Cardiff and helped the Watford midfield to completely dominate the middle of the park in South Wales.
The star of that particular show was Gerard Deulofeu, though, with the former Barcelona man helping himself to a brilliant hat-trick and becoming the first Watford player to score a top-flight treble since 1986 in the process. Deulofeu's display was the standout one of any player in the entire gameweek.
The Spaniard also added an assist to his three goals, teeing up captain Troy Deeney for one of his two goals, while the Hornets skipper notched an assist of his own too to complete a stunning display from the Watford attacking duo.
Wilfried Zaha was not too far behind in terms of the level of individual performances, also scoring twice in the 4-1 win over Leicester including a lovely cushioned volley to restore Crystal Palace's lead with 20 minutes remaining.
Michail Antonio had to wait until the 91st minute for his goal against Fulham as he steered a fine header into the corner, capping off a superb display on the right flank to beat fierce competition from the likes of Isaac Hayden, Robert Snodgrass, Will Hughes and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for a place in this XI.
Mkhitaryan may miss out despite a goal and an assist, but clubmate Alexandre Lacazette does make it into this week's team courtesy of his goal against Southampton - although there were no shortage of players in contention to partner Deeney up front.
Burnley duo Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood both deserve mentions for their part in the win over Spurs, while Salomon Rondon, Ayoze Perez and Michy Batshuayi were all also on the scoresheet and on the winning side in their matches.
