Premier League Team of the Week - Jamie Vardy, James Maddison, James Ward-Prowse

Sports Mole selects its Premier League team of the week for gameweek 12, including Jamie Vardy, James Maddison and James Ward-Prowse.

All of the Premier League's 'big six' dropped points on a remarkable gameweek 12 of top-flight action.

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool remain joint-top despite both being held to 1-1 draws by Crystal Palace and Fulham respectively, but they are now just one point clear of Leicester City.

The third-placed Foxes were one of only two teams to win by more than one goal this weekend, cruising past Brighton & Hove Albion with a 3-0 triumph.

Southampton matched that scoreline against rock-bottom Sheffield United to complete the top four, while Burnley picked up a famous victory against struggling Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Everton overcame Chelsea to put a dent in the Blues' title hopes, and Manchester United and Manchester City played out a dull and dreary derby at Old Trafford.

West Ham United, Aston Villa and Newcastle United were the other winners over the weekend as Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion fell to defeats.

Such was the way the weekend went that the goalkeeper was the most hotly-contested position in this week's team, with Nick Pope, Vicente Guaita and Alisson Becker all worthy of mentions.

However, it had to be Emiliano Martinez who got the gloves, having made seven saves to keep Wolves at bay as Aston Villa edged to a narrow victory over their Midlands rivals.

Angelo Ogbonna is the only other non-Leicester or Southampton player to make the cut for this XI, with his thunderous header earning the points for West Ham in the opening match of the gameweek against Leeds.

Southampton just about edge Leicester to have the most representatives this week, including both of their centre-backs as Jannik Vestergaard and Jan Bednarek once again put in towering performances to help the Saints up to fourth.

James Ward-Prowse has been a major reason behind their form this season and he created four chances against Sheffield United, although it was his midfield partner Oriol Romeu who grabbed an assist in that game, setting up Nathan Redmond to cap off the scoring.

Leicester provide both wing-backs in this team after James Justin, who began the match on the left before switching, helped himself to an assist and Marc Albrighton provided a similarly constant threat on the opposite flank.

James Maddison was arguably the star of the show for the high-flying Foxes, though, scoring twice including a stunning second to help put Leicester out of reach of Brighton before half time.

Jamie Vardy netted the other goal in that one-sided first half, while he also provided the assist for both of Maddison's strikes in addition to hitting the woodwork.

Vardy is joined up front by Che Adams, who broke the deadlock for Southampton with a smart finish from a tight angle and never made things easy for the Sheffield United defence throughout.
