Danny Welbeck scores from bench as Manchester United win

Danny Welbeck's goal is enough to separate Norwich City and Manchester United at Carrow Road.

A goal from half-time substitute Danny Welbeck has given Manchester United all three points at Carrow Road in the Premier League against Norwich City.

The first chance of the game fell to United and came from a counter-attack. Ashley Young's cross was half cleared and fell to Shinji Kagawa, who tested John Ruddy down low with a drilled effort.

Norwich took a while to get into the game but when they did they should have gone in front on 18 minutes, as Russell Martin's initial shot was saved and fell to Wes Hoolahan, who had the ball nipped off his boot by a scrambling Nemanja Vidic.

The hosts were suddenly on top and worked David de Gea again a few minutes later, with Robert Snodgrass finding Gary Hooper, but the striker's shot was at a comfortable height for the United keeper.

There was time before the break for one more save from De Gea, but this time he was comfortably behind a Sebastian Bassong header from a corner.

At the break, David Moyes replaced Ryan Giggs with Danny Welbeck and inside 15 minutes the change had an impact. Welbeck managed to block an appearance and, once the ball had been passed back to him by Hernandez, kept his composure to go around Ruddy and put his side ahead.

Welbeck was becoming the main dangerman in the game, but it was Norwich who had a big appeal for a penalty turned down. Hoolahan went down between Vidic and Patrice Evra, but Phil Dowd waved away the appeal.

Nathan Redmond and Hoolahan combined well to find Josh Murphy some 25 yards from goal, but the youngster put his shot off target as Norwich fell to consecutive home defeats.
