Staff at the Lowry Hotel were reportedly in tears as sacked Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said his goodbyes after a near-900-day stay.

Staff at the Lowry Hotel were reportedly in tears when Jose Mourinho left following his sacking by Manchester United earlier today.

The Red Devils confirmed this morning that they had parted company with the Portuguese boss following Sunday's 3-1 defeat at bitter rivals Liverpool, which was the latest in a long line of disappointing results for the club this season.

Mourinho spent his entire time as United boss living at the Lowry Hotel, but ended his stay of almost 900 days this afternoon as he left the city centre residence for the final time.

The Daily Mail reports that the 55-year-old had a final meal at the five-star hotel before saying emotional goodbyes to certain members of staff.

Mourinho leaves United sitting 19 points off leaders Liverpool and 11 adrift of the Champions League places as a result of five defeats from their first 17 games.
