Man Utd transfer news: Ruben Amorim faces 'fight' to land 'new midfield' target

Amorim faces 'fight' to land 'new midfield' target

Manchester United could reportedly face a fight to land Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes if they want to sign him in the January transfer window.

The Red Devils are looking to add more quality in their midfield areas to bolster their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

A new midfielder could be top of Ruben Amorim's wishlist in January, with uncertainty surrounding the futures of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.

United could also lose their homegrown talent, Kobbie Mainoo, in the upcoming transfer window, as he reportedly looks to move on in search of regular game time.

The Red Devils have been linked with moves for Brighton & Hove Albion's Carlos Baleba and Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, while Gomes is also on their transfer wishlist.

Man Utd eye move for Gomes?

The Brazilian midfielder is reportedly priced at £44m and has emerged as a cost-effective alternative for either Baleba or Anderson.

The Red Devils have monitored the 24-year-old midfielder for the past 18 months, and he could be a brilliant addition for them in January.

According to a report from Manchester Evening News, Wolves are reluctant to sell their prized asset amid growing fan unrest.

Wolves are sitting at the bottom of the Premier League with just two points on board, and losing a key player like Gomes in January would be disastrous for them.

Will Gomes leave Wolves in January?

Wolves boss Rob Edwards has vowed to do everything possible to stay up in the Premier League, and the best way the club can support him is by not selling their star players in January.

This should give them their best possible chance of staying up, but money speaks in football, and Wolves could be forced to do business if a good offer comes for Gomes in January.

The Brazil international would reportedly love to move to Old Trafford, where he can team up with his former teammate Matheus Cunha, who moved to United in the summer.

While Gomes may feel that he may not get another chance to join a big club, Wolves would try their best to persuade him to stay put until the end of the season.
