Arsenal have reportedly advanced in talks over a deal to sign Rosenborg youngster Sverre Nypan.
Last month, it was reported that Manchester United were close to striking a deal to sign the highly-rated teenager.
However, it has since emerged that the Red Devils have dropped out of the race to secure Nypan's signature, amid rival interest from Arsenal and Manchester City.
It now appears that Arsenal are stepping up their efforts to sign a midfielder who has been compared to their captain, Martin Odegaard.

Arsenal advance in Nypan talks
According to The Athletic, talks are advancing between the two clubs and the player's representatives over a potential move to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are hopeful that their positive relationship with Rosenborg can help them in their efforts to secure Nypan's services.
If he were to complete a move to North London, he would immediately add to Arsenal's squad depth while also possessing the potential to grow into a star player in the long term.
However, the report stresses that Nypan is yet to make a final decision on his future despite Arsenal's recent progress in negotiations.
With no agreement in place, there is still a possibility that another potential suitor could try to steal a march on the Gunners.

Rosenborg's highly-rated midfielder
Nypan is regarded as 'one of the best prospects in Europe', having already made a significant impression in the Norwegian top-flight.
The youngster has made 60 top-flight appearances since making his Eliteserien debut as a 15-year-old in November 2022.
Nypan featured in 28 league matches during the 2024 campaign, contributing eight goals and seven assists from midfield.
As a result of his impressive club form, Nypan has already been given the chance to make four appearances for Norway's Under-21 side.
