Arsenal have reportedly suffered a huge setback in their bid to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The Gunners are one of a number of teams who have emerged as potential contenders to Gyokeres' signature following his impressive form with the Portuguese giants.
Gyokeres, who joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023, has racked up 43 goals in 50 competitive appearances during his first season in Portugal, helping the club win the Primeira Liga title.
The Sweden international has carried that prolific form into the 2024-25 campaign, netting 24 goals in 20 matches across all competitions.
However, Gyokeres was unable to find the net in the recent Champions League clash against Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta's side running out 5-1 winners at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Arsenal suffer major Gyokeres blow
Arsenal may have played against their transfer target on Tuesday, but it seems unlikely that he will join up with the Gunners anytime soon.
According to The Sun, Gyokeres 'has his heart set' on a move to Man United rather than a switch to the Emirates Stadium.
The 26-year-old is seemingly keen to reunite with his former head coach Ruben Amorim, who left Sporting earlier this month to take over the reins at Man United.
The Red Devils are said to be in a strong position in the race to sign Gyokeres, but they could also face competition from their city neighbours Manchester City.
Barcelona are another club looking to secure Gyokeres's signature, with the Catalan giants drawing up plans to see off competition from Man United and co.

Who are Arsenal's alternative striker targets?
Arsenal may be fighting a losing battle when it comes to Gyokeres, but they do have other potential targets on their radar.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for Gyokeres's Sweden teammate Alexander Isak, who has showcased his goalscoring talents during his time with Newcastle United.
Arsenal are facing competition for Chelsea and La Liga leaders Barcelona for a player that could command a £115m transfer fee.
Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic is another striker being considered by Arsenal, with the Old Lady open to the prospect of selling the Serbian in 2025.
Despite his uncertain future, Vlahovic has continued to be a regular feature in the Juventus side this season, scoring nine goals in 16 competitive appearances.
