Franz Beckenbauer says that he would love Wayne Rooney to join Bayern Munich.

Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer has admitted that he would love it if Wayne Rooney were to join Bayern Munich in the summer.

The Manchester United forward's future has been the topic of speculation as of late, despite manager Sir Alex Ferguson insisting that the 27-year-old would not be leaving Old Trafford.

However, Beckenbauer, an honorary president at the Bundesliga outfit, insists that he would be "very happy" to see the England international at the Allianz Arena next season.

"I would be very, very happy if Wayne Rooney decided to come to Bayern Munich," Beckenbauer told ESPN.

"But is this a rumour or is it true? I don't know!"

Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move for Rooney.
