Athletic Bilbao: 'Ander Herrera matter closed'

Athletic Bilbao president Josu Urrutia says that Ander Herrera will not be leaving the club in the near future.

Athletic Bilbao president Josu Urrutia has ruled out the possibility of selling midfield playmaker Ander Herrera.

The 24-year-old was the subject of a deadline-day bid from Manchester United, although reports later alleged that it was impostors claiming to represent the Premier League champions who were attempting to broker a deal.

Red Devils boss David Moyes was said to be considering another move in January, but Urrutia has drawn a line under the matter.

"I don't know what other teams will do, but I consider the Herrera issue to be closed," the 45-year-old told reporters.

"Ander has a contract until 2016. All players have to focus on giving Athletic all you can give."

Herrera arrived at San Mames from Real Zaragoza in 2011.
