Chelsea will reportedly need to make Josko Gvardiol the most expensive defender in history if they are to sign him from RB Leipzig in January.
The centre-back has made 65 appearances in his time with Leipzig, chipping in with three goals and four assists, but it has been his defensive displays that have caught the attention of a number of Europe's biggest clubs.
Gvardiol also featured in every minute for Croatia at the 2022 World Cup, helping his country finish in third place at the tournament.
Although Chelsea are one of the sides interested in signing Gvardiol, his impressive performances in Qatar appear to have increased Leipzig's asking price.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Fabrizio Romano said: "Now, Leipzig want way more than €90m (£79.2m). They hope to go for more than €100m (£88m) to make Gvardiol the most expensive centre-back ever.
"Chelsea are still working on it. They are still in contact with people close to the player and Leipzig."
As well as being linked with a move to Chelsea, Gvardiol is also attracting interest from the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
