Chelsea's Timo Werner deal 'stalling due to medical'

Chelsea may allegedly have to wait until the end of June to complete a medical with RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.

Journalist Raphael Honigstein has suggested that Chelsea have been held up in their bid to complete a deal for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.

Last week, reports emerged that the Blues and Werner had agreed terms over a long-term contract after the Germany international had held discussions with Frank Lampard.

In a bid to fend off any late interest in the 24-year-old, the Premier League outfit are keen to finalise the transfer as soon as possible.

However, according to Honigstein of The Athletic, quarantine regulations in place due to the coronavirus pandemic will likely lead to a medical being delayed until the end of the month.

On Twitter, Honigstein said: "Delay in the Werner deal is solely down to the practicalities of getting a medical done. He can't fly to the UK due to Bundesliga Covid-19 regulations and Chelsea docs can't fly to Germany because they would have to isolate for 14 days upon return.

"Chelsea could use German FA doctors in the meantime but they're more likely to wait until German season is over on June 27 or quarantine regulations in the UK change."

With Werner possessing a release clause of £54m until June 15, it leaves other clubs, including Manchester United, with a window of opportunity to hold further talks with the attacker.
