Matteo Darmian will leave Manchester United in the January transfer window to return to Italy, according to a report.

Matteo Darmian will reportedly leave Manchester United in the January transfer window.

Darmian was strongly linked with a move away from United during the summer, but ultimately remained at Old Trafford under the orders of Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho's sacking as head coach of the Red Devils appears to have changed Darmian's situation, however, and according to The Express, the Italy international could now leave United in January.

The report claims that a number of Italian clubs are closely monitoring developments, although Juventus have cooled their interest in the 29-year-old.

Darmian, who joined United from Torino in 2015, has made four Premier League appearances this season.
