David de Gea will return to Manchester United early in a bid to regain the number one goalkeeping spot at the club, according to a report.

David de Gea will reportedly return to Manchester United before the end of the month in a bid to regain the number one goalkeeping spot ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

The 30-year-old is not due to return from his summer break until the start of August, having been a part of the Spain squad at Euro 2020, but the stopper was not used by his country.

According to The Sun, De Gea will cut his holiday short this week, as he does not want to lose ground on Dean Henderson, who is already in pre-season training with the Red Devils.

The report claims that Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still undecided who will be between the sticks for the team's Premier League opener against Leeds United on August 14.

The Spain international lost the number one spot to Henderson in the latter stages of last season but was given the nod for the Europa League final against Villarreal.

De Gea has been linked with a move away from the 20-time English champions, but he still has two years left to run on his £375,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford.
