Getafe president Angel Torres claims that Manchester United are not planning to Mason Greenwood back to the club this summer.

Getafe president Angel Torres has claimed that Manchester United have no intention of bringing Mason Greenwood back to the club this summer.

Having been told that he had no future at the club last year, the 22-year-old moved on loan to Getafe, and he has had an impressive 2023-24 season for the La Liga team, scoring 10 goals and registering six assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.

Earlier this year, Man United's new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently opened the door for the forward to potentially return to Old Trafford for the 2024-25 campaign.

However, it has since been widely reported that the Red Devils are planning to sell Greenwood this summer, providing that their asking price for the academy product is met.

Getafe's president is hopeful that the Englishman's loan deal in Spain will be extended, and he has said that a return to Man United this summer is not on the cards.

Mason Greenwood 'will not return to Man United'

"If it was up to the lad, his parents and the club [Getafe], I think he would continue for another year," Torres told Marca.

"But regarding Manchester [United], the news that we have from last week where the sporting director went to England to see some games and was with them, is that if a good offer comes along, they would want to sell because he is not going to go back there [to Manchester].

"We'll have to wait until the end of June. The family and the player are very comfortable and very happy here, with our fans. When he came here, he hadn't played for 16 months.

"He has recovered his form, he has scored eight league goals and two in the Copa [del Rey]. The people and the coach are very happy with him. I think he will remain with us for another season, or at least until January. He is a good footballer."

Man United are believed to be looking to sell Mason Greenwood

At the start of 2022, following accusations from a woman, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The forward was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the case against him was dropped in February 2023, allowing him to resume his career during the 2023-24 campaign.

Man United are thought to have decided to bring him back into their squad for the current season but were then forced into a U-turn due to the reaction of the public.

Greenwood has represented Man United on 129 occasions in all competitions, scoring 35 goals and registering 12 assists, with his last appearance coming against West Ham United in January 2022.

Any sale of the forward this summer would count as pure profit under the Premier League's rules surrounding profitability and sustainability.
