Talks between Manchester United and Barcelona over Frenkie de Jong's proposed transfer to Old Trafford have reportedly hit a stumbling block.

Talks between Manchester United and Barcelona over Frenkie de Jong's proposed transfer to Old Trafford have reportedly hit a stumbling block.

The 25-year-old is believed to be Erik ten Hag's primary target this summer, and the Red Devils have been locked in negotiations with the Catalan giants for almost two months.

It is thought that United have reached a "broad agreement" with Barca to sign De Jong for €65m (£56.2m) plus add-ons, and club chiefs Richard Arnold and John Murtough have both been in Catalonia this week to discuss the deal with the La Liga club.

However, journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that the Dutchman's proposed move to United is currently stalling as the player's agents Ali Dursun and Hasan Cetinkaya have informed Barca that their client has no intention of leaving Camp Nou.

Romano adds that De Jong's representatives are also unwilling to accept Barca's latest offer to reduce his salary amid the club's well-documented financial problems.

Man United are believed to have informed Barca that they want to conclude a deal to sign De Jong by Friday, and should they fail in their pursuit of the midfielder they will consider targeting Wolverhampton Wanderers' Ruben Neves and Leicester City's Youri Tielemans.
