Manchester United could sign Brentford defender Rico Henry for a fee in the region of £35m next summer, according to a report.

Manchester United have reportedly been informed that they could sign Brentford defender Rico Henry for a fee in the region of £35m during next summer's transfer window.

The 26-year-old was linked with a move to Old Trafford in the latter stages of the recent transfer market, with the Red Devils targeting a new left-back ahead of the deadline.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are currently both on the sidelines through injury, which led to Tottenham Hotspur's Sergio Reguilon making the move to Man United on loan.

Shaw and Malacia are both expected to be back in the next couple of months, while it is understood that there is a break clause in Reguilon's loan move, so the Spaniard could potentially head back to Tottenham in January.

According to Football Insider, there is still interest from the 20-time English champions in Henry, who has proven to be a dependable performer in the Premier League.

The report claims that an offer of around £35m would likely be accepted by Brentford, who signed the former England Under-20s international from Walsall in 2016.

Henry has featured on 202 occasions for the Bees in all competitions, scoring five goals and registering 11 assists in the process.

The defender has now made 75 appearances in the Premier League, scoring three goals and contributing three assists, while he has also played in both the Championship and League One.

Henry has another three years left to run on his contract with Thomas Frank's side, while there is also a one-year option in his deal, placing Brentford in a strong position.

Man United are allegedly already putting plans in place for next summer's transfer window despite the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the ownership of the club.

Erik ten Hag's side are believed to want to bring in four new players next year, with Brighton & Hove Albion's teenage forward Evan Ferguson at the top of their list.

Bayer Leverkusen pair Edmond Tapsoba and Jeremie Frimpong are also believed to be targets, while another central midfielder is expected to arrive ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

The Red Devils have won two and lost two of their four Premier League matches this season, and they will resume their campaign after the international break with a clash against Brighton on Saturday afternoon.
