Man Utd 'beat Liverpool to Spanish starlet'

Manchester United reportedly beat Liverpool in the race to sign 16-year-old Villarreal defender Adrian Corral.

Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of completing a deal for Villarreal youngster Adrian Corral.

Villarreal are understood to be keen on keeping the centre-back, but the player has reportedly told the club that he will not sign professional terms.

Both Liverpool and United have been credited with an interest in Corral, and Spanish publication Super Deporte reports that United have now won the race for his signature.

The 16-year-old is set to join up with the club's academy, which is currently run by former midfielder Nicky Butt.

United will only have to pay a compensation fee for the youngster, who can play as either a centre-back or a left-back.

Corral has spent the past four seasons with Villarreal.
