Manchester United reportedly contacted Mesut Ozil's agent just hours before the midfielder signed for Arsenal on deadline day.
Reports have emerged over the last few weeks claiming that the Premier League champions were in the market for the German international, who left Real Madrid in a reported £42.5m deal.
It is understood that the North-West outfit called Ozil's agent on deadline day, only to be told that the midfielder had already made his mind up to join Arsenal, according to the Manchester Evening News.
United only managed to clinch one major summer signing in the form of Marouane Fellaini from Everton.
