Manchester United identify Rosenborg midfielder Sverre Nypan as a potential transfer target this summer, according to a report.

Manchester United have reportedly identified Rosenborg midfielder Sverre Nypan as a potential transfer target during this summer's window.

The 17-year-old has made 34 appearances for Rosenborg in all competitions, scoring five goals and registering six assists in the process, and he is believed to be on the radar of a number of European clubs.

According to the Daily Mail, Nypan is viewed as a genuine transfer target for Man United, with the 20-time English champions tracking his development.

The teenager became Rosenborg's youngest-ever player when he turned out for the club at the age of 15 years and 322 days old in November 2022.

Nypan also became a record-breaker in May 2023 when he scored for his Norwegian club against Bodo/Glimt, becoming the youngest player in their history to register in a league match at the age of 16 years and 145 days old.

The Norway Under-19s international has been in strong form for Rosenborg at the start of their current season, providing two assists in four Eliteserien appearances.

Nypen has a contract with his Norwegian side until December 2026, but the club would not be in a position to reject a sizeable offer from a European giant this summer.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has taken over the football department at Old Trafford, and the British billionaire is currently making a number of changes behind the scenes, which will include alterations to the scouting department.

Man United will move away from overpaying for established players and are expected to target youngsters, with Gremio's Gustavo Nunes also believed to be a target.

Which midfielders could leave Man United this summer?

There will certainly be changes in the midfield department at Old Trafford this summer, with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro potentially both moving on in the upcoming market.

Eriksen has struggled for action since Kobbie Mainoo's first-team breakthrough, and the Denmark international is likely to leave this summer in search of regular football.

Casemiro, meanwhile, is also being tipped to leave, with the 32-year-old finding it difficult to impress this term from a defensive point of view, and he has also struggled with fitness problems.

Scott McTominay was heavily linked with an exit last summer, but the Scotland international has scored 10 times this season and now looks likely to stay.

However, Sofyan Amrabat is not expected to be signed on a permanent basis from Fiorentina, having struggled to impress this term, while Donny van de Beek is set to depart even if Eintracht Frankfurt decide against signing him on a permanent basis.
