Bayern Munich announce that Manchester United-linked Thomas Muller has extended his contract at the club until the summer of 2025.

Bayern Munich have announced that veteran forward Thomas Muller has extended his contract at the club until the summer of 2025.

The 34-year-old has spent his entire career with the Bavarian giants since joining the club at the age of 10 from TSV Pahl.

Muller has made a total of 684 appearances for Bayern across all competitions since his professional debut back in 2008, scoring 237 goals and registering 261 assists.

The Germany international has etched his name into Bayern folklore during his time at the Allianz Arena and has won a total of 32 trophies with the club, including 12 Bundesliga titles.

Muller was due to see his original contract expire at the end of the current campaign, which led to speculation over a possible exit amid reported interest from Manchester United.

However, the 2014 World Cup winner has decided to commit his future to Bayern by signing a new 18-month contract extension to take his stay at the club to an impressive 25 years.

"I'm happy my journey at FC Bayern is continuing," Muller told the club's official website. "I want to play my part in us remaining successful, both as a team and the whole club.

"It's important to me to be a foundation and to help steer the team in the right direction. I want to excite our fans with goals, helping create goals, my love of the game, my passion for football – and hopefully with many more titles."

Bayern president Herbert Hainer added: "Thomas Muller belongs to FC Bayern like the Frauenkirche to Munich. He was born just outside the city, grew up at this club and is already a legend while still playing.

"Very few players achieve that. His career is littered with records in the history books. FC Bayern has been shaped by many people, and there will never again be a player like Thomas Muller."

Sporting director Christoph Freund continued: "We're very pleased that Thomas Muller will be staying at FC Bayern for another season. He's a leader both on and off the pitch, always a role model and incredibly valuable for the entire team.

"Thomas pushes every team with his open and positive manner on and off the pitch. The way he plays is extremely clever, for the team, and he's very versatile in where he can play. Thomas is also almost never injured, always there – just quality and reliability personified."

Muller has been in and out of the starting lineup under head coach Thomas Tuchel so far this season, starting just six of his 11 appearances across the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Jamal Musiala has been competing with Muller for starts in the number 10 role and both players will battle it out for a place in Tuchel's first XI when Bayern travel to the Volkswagen Arena to face Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga on Wednesday.
