Manchester United have reportedly triggered a one-year extension clause in the contract of Mason Greenwood.
The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Getafe in La Liga, having been informed by Man United last summer that he had no future with the club.
In January 2022, following accusations from a woman, the Red Devils academy product was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.
The Englishman was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the case against him was dropped last February.
Greenwood was therefore cleared to return to football for the 2023-24 campaign, and Man United allegedly decided to bring him back into their squad before being forced into a U-turn due to the reaction of the public.

Man United facing major Greenwood call
The forward has scored eight times and registered five assists in 28 appearances for Getafe this season, including six goals and five assists in 25 La Liga outings.
Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are among the clubs to be linked with Greenwood, who is believed to be open to remaining in Spain beyond the end of the campaign.
However, Man United's new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently opened the door for the forward to potentially return to Old Trafford for the 2024-25 campaign.
Greenwood's contract with the Red Devils had been due to expire next summer, but according to The Athletic, Getafe believe that a one-year contract extension until June 2026 has already been triggered.
The report claims that Getafe have a 20% sell-on clause in their loan agreement, so a substantial sale would benefit the Spanish outfit, even if they would prefer to keep hold of him.

Man United players thought to be open to Greenwood return
A number of Greenwood's Man United teammates are reportedly open to the idea of the forward coming back into the first-team squad for the 2024-25 campaign.
Before his arrest, the Englishman was viewed as one of the best young talents in world football, and he has represented Man United on 129 occasions in all competitions, scoring 35 goals and registering 12 assists.
Greenwood has not turned out for Man United for over two years, though, with his last appearance coming against West Ham United in January 2022.
The forward has a record of 22 goals and four assists in 83 Premier League appearances for the club, while he has scored twice and registered three assists in 10 Champions League outings.
Man United are currently short of options in the final third of the field, and Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri could all be on the move during this summer's transfer window.
