Manchester United will reportedly launch a bid worth £65m in order to complete a deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes next week.
The two clubs are said to have met for talks last Friday to discuss a move for the 25-year-old, who has been linked with United since last summer.
Reports claim that Sporting have rejected United's initial offer of a player-plus-cash deal including Marcos Rojo or Joel Pereira.
According to The Mirror, the Red Devils are expected to return over the next week with an offer of £65m to secure the player's services.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is particularly keen on adding a midfielder over January following injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.
United are said to be wary of the prospect of a rival bid from Tottenham Hotspur, who were interested in Fernandes last summer and are in the market for a midfielder.
