Manchester United attempted to sign Jadon Sancho during Jose Mourinho's time at the club in 2017, according to a report.
The England international is rumoured to be the Red Devils' top transfer target ahead of the next window after another sensational season for Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho has spent the past three years at Dortmund after growing tired over a lack of playing time at Manchester City, where he was not given the chance to make a name for himself.
The Manchester Evening News claims that United were tracking the youngster at the time and were confident of agreeing personal terms.
However, Sancho is said to have felt that first-team opportunities would be just as hard to come by at Old Trafford and instead headed abroad to try his luck in Germany.
After racking up double figures for goals and assists in back-to-back Bundesliga campaigns, the 20-year-old is now valued in excess of £100m.
