Leicester City have eyed up a move for Manchester United midfielder James Garner in the upcoming transfer window, according to a report.
The 21-year-old has spent the 2021-22 campaign on loan with Championship side Nottingham Forest, scoring four goals and registering eight assists in 41 league appearances so far.
Garner and Forest play the final game of their season at Wembley on Sunday, hoping to make their long-awaited return to the Premier League by beating Huddersfield Town in the Championship playoff final.
However, regardless of Steve Cooper's side's success in that game, Garner could well be playing top-flight football next season anyway according to the Mirror, who are reporting that Leicester are interested in completing a potential loan deal this summer.
The report outlines how the midfielder's excellent form this season has alerted several Premier League sides, including the likes of Leeds United and Southampton, but that Brendan Rodgers is hoping to lure Garner to the Foxes after being impressed with his performances this year, including in Forest's FA Cup win over Leicester in February.
After coming through the academy at Old Trafford, Garner has featured just seven times across all competitions for the Red Devils' first team, before spending the 2020-21 season on loan with both Watford and Forest, and the current campaign back with the Reds for the entire year.
Meanwhile, despite the exits of Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard at United, and the expected exits of Paul Pogba and Juan Mata, Garner could find his playing time limited at Old Trafford next season, with new boss Erik ten Hag linked with the likes of Ruben Neves and Frenkie de Jong as the Dutchman looks to revamp their central midfield.
