Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Brescia over a potential move for Sandro Tonali during this summer's transfer window.
The 20-year-old, who is widely regarded as one of the best young talents in Italian football, has been linked with a number of clubs over the last few months.
Inter Milan are believed to be the favourites for the midfielder, with a recent report claiming that Antonio Conte's side would pay an initial €35m (£31m) for his services this summer.
However, according to Corriere dello Sport, United have now made an approach for the Italy international, having been impressed by his development over the last 12 months.
The report claims that Brescia are keen to keep Tonali on loan for the 2020-21 campaign if he agrees a move away from the club before the start of October.
The defensive midfielder scored once and provided seven assists in 35 Serie A appearances last season.
