Manchester United are reportedly preparing to move for RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano during next summer's transfer window.
The Red Devils are thought to be in the market for a new central defender and had been linked with a swoop for Upamecano during the current window.
A recent report claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side would not be signing the Frenchman in the coming weeks, but according to the Daily Mail, a move ahead of the 2021-22 campaign is on the cards.
Upamecano has a £38m release clause in his current contract but that will not kick in until next summer, meaning that he would allegedly cost 'significantly more' than the buy-out this summer.
The 21-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2019-20 season for Leipzig, making 38 appearances in all competitions and helping the German side reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have all been linked with moves away from United, who are due to start their new Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on September 19.
