Manchester United will reportedly rival Chelsea in their £40m bid for West Ham United defender Issa Diop this month.
The Red Devils came under heavy scrutiny for their defensive performance during a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in the EFL Cup earlier this week.
Moreover, injuries to Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and Marcos Rojo in recent times have left United short of options at the back.
According to the Daily Mail, United plan to launch an approach for Diop to rival that of Chelsea, who are also in the market for a defender.
Diop has established himself as an indispensable member of West Ham's defence since joining the club in 2018, making 15 Premier League appearances so far this term.
