Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is reportedly considering his future at Old Trafford, due to a lack of regular first-team football.

The 33-year-old, who featured in just nine Premier League games last season, has only played for 62 minutes in the EFL Cup so far this campaign and was not named in United's matchday squad for last weekend's defeat against Aston Villa.

Mata has less than 12 months remaining on his contract and could leave the Red Devils for free next summer, however the Manchester Evening News reports that the Spaniard is open to a move in January.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side currently enduring a difficult run of form, including their elimination from the EFL Cup, Mata's chances in the first team may now be reduced as the Norwegian head coach will likely name his strongest side to turn their fortunes around.

Following the arrival of Jadon Sancho this summer, as well as the imminent return of Marcus Rashford from injury, Mata is set to be pushed further down the pecking order.

Mata has made 274 appearances across all competitions for United since joining the club from Chelsea in 2014, scoring 51 goals and providing 47 assists.
