Report: Manchester United still interested in AS Monaco's Fabinho

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is still eager to sign versatile AS Monaco player Fabinho despite the acquisition of Nemanja Matic, according to reports.

Manchester United are still hoping to sign AS Monaco star Fabinho despite having already recruited Nemanja Matic, according to a report.

Matic completed his move from Chelsea for a reported £40m last week and made his debut for the club during the 2-1 pre-season friendly victory over Sampdoria.

It was thought that United would have ended their interest in Fabinho following the Serbian's acquisition, but The Express suggests that Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen his squad further.

The report suggests that Mourinho wanted to sign Paris Saint-Germain right-back Serge Aurier, but he was unable to get a work permit for England, so Fabinho - who can play in defence as well as midfield - has once again emerged as a target for United.

Fabinho recently admitted that he "would be very tempted" to link up with Mourinho, under whom he spent time working for a short time while at former club Real Madrid.
