Nemanja Matic open to returning to Benfica

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic says that he would be open to returning to Benfica in the future.

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has revealed that he would be open to returning to Benfica before the end of his professional career.

The 32-year-old has made 25 appearances for the Red Devils during the 2020-21 campaign and remains an important figure for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side despite not always being first choice.

Matic still has more than two years left to run on his contract at Old Trafford, meanwhile, and it does not appear that he will be leaving the 20-time English champions at any point soon.

However, the Serbia international has suggested that he would be open to moving back to Benfica, where he played between 2011 and 2014 before moving to the Premier League with Chelsea.

"I'm still not thinking about finishing my career. Let's see. For me, Benfica will always be in my heart. Let's see what the future will bring," Matic told Sport TV.

"If Benfica ever feel like they need me again, let's think about it. But for now, I'm happy at Man Utd. I don't think about leaving, but in football you never know. If one day I return to Portugal, the only team I would play for is Benfica."

Matic has made 146 appearances for Man United since arriving from Chelsea in 2017.
