Phil Neville to join Manchester United coaching staff

Phil Neville reportedly accepts an offer from David Moyes to become his first-team coach at Manchester United, ending his playing career in the process.

Phil Neville has reportedly decided to accept an offer from David Moyes to join his coaching staff at Manchester United.

The pair worked together for eight seasons at Goodison Park before both men left last month to take up new challenges.

Neville was initially set on continuing his playing career but will retire in order to replace Rene Meulensteen as first-team coach at Old Trafford, according to The Guardian.

The 36-year-old has been linked with the vacant post left by Moyes at Everton but believes he can gain experience to boost a future managerial career with his former club.

Moyes also wants trusted assistants Steve Round, Chris Woods and Robbie Cooke to leave Everton and join Neville at United to form a new-look backroom team at the Premier League champions.

Round was Moyes's number two at Everton from 2008 and will replace Mike Phelan as assistant coach at United after he decided to leave the club following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
