Manchester United will not let club captain Harry Maguire join Newcastle United on loan this summer, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly not prepared to loan Harry Maguire to Newcastle United this summer but would be open to letting the centre-back move to the Magpies on a permanent basis.

The 30-year-old's future is currently the subject of much speculation, having found it difficult to secure regular action during the 2022-23 campaign.

Maguire featured on 31 occasions in all competitions during the recent season, but he started just eight times in the Premier League, with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw all ahead of him in the pecking order for the spots in the middle of the defence.

Man United are expected to move for another centre-back this summer, with Napoli's Kim Min-jae being heavily linked with a move, which would make it even tougher for Maguire to secure regular action next term.

A recent report claimed that Maguire is prepared to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his spot, but the Red Devils are expected to push to move him on before the end of the transfer window.

There have been suggestions that the centre-back's huge wages, which are close to £200,000 a week, could make it difficult for clubs to afford him this summer.

Newcastle have been linked with a possible loan switch for the former Sheffield United youngster, but according to The Sun, Man United are not willing to loan their captain to a domestic rival, with the Magpies now seen as serious competition due to their recent takeover and fourth-place finish in the Premier League.

The report claims that Erik ten Hag's side would be willing to let Maguire move to St James' Park, but Eddie Howe's team would have to buy him.

Aston Villa are also said to be keeping a close eye on the situation, and Man United are allegedly open to letting the defender move to Villa Park on loan next season.

Tottenham Hotspur are also thought to be interested, with the London club looking to rebuild their squad after missing out on a European finish during the 2022-23 Premier League.

Leicester City had also been linked with their former player, but the Foxes are not in a position to potentially re-sign him this summer following their relegation to the Championship.

Maguire only featured in 16 of Man United's 38 Premier League matches during the 2022-23 campaign and continued to struggle for action even when Varane and Martinez were on the sidelines through injury.

Shaw was picked ahead of him in the middle of the defence, while Lindelof was in strong form in the latter stages of the campaign, and Ten Hag is said to be determined to keep the Swede this summer.

Maguire moved to Old Trafford from Leicester in the summer of 2019, and he has represented the Red Devils on 175 occasions in all competitions, scoring seven goals and contributing five assists in the process.
