Manchester United are interested in signing Rosenborg wonderkid Sverre Nypan in 2025, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Rosenborg wonderkid Sverre Nypan.

The 17-year-old has already made 54 first-team appearances for Rosenborg, scoring 11 goals and registering 10 assists, while he has been in strong form for his Norwegian club this season.

Nypan has six goals and nine assists in 27 outings this term, and it is believed that his development has attracted the attention of a number of the leading clubs in European football.

According to Goal, Man United have been tracking Nypan since 2022, and the Red Devils are now considering making a formal move for the youngster during the January transfer window.

The report claims that Nypan, who has been compared to Arsenal attacker Martin Odegaard, could then potentially return to Rosenborg on loan for another season to continue his development.

"Sverre Nypan is extremely exciting, and I get a bit of the same feeling as when I saw Martin Odegaard break through as a boy," Norwegian football expert Jesper Mathisen told TV2 last year.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be tracking Nypan, but Man United are said to be at the head of the queue for his services.

Nypan signed a new contract with Rosenborg last year, with his current terms running until December 2026, and his club's sports manager Mikael Dorsin previously said that the midfielder could now be worth €100m (£84m).

"That it is at the levels that he is delivering now," Dorsin said to TV2.

Nypan revealed admiration for Man United last year

Nypan revealed last year that he supports Man United and also spoke of his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The midfielder said at the time that a move to Old Trafford was "very unrealistic", but his development over the last 12 months has certainly put him in a position to earn a "dream" move to Manchester.

"I've always been a Manchester United fan," Nypan told TV2 in 2023. "Then of course there is Real Madrid. I'm a big [Cristiano] Ronaldo fan. It's very unrealistic, but it's the dream."

Man United will have competition from a number of other clubs, but Nypan's agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has a strong relationship with the 20-time English champions, having engineered moves for Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt to the club from Bayern Munich during the summer window.
