Manchester United have reportedly made an offer in the region of £8m for AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong.
The Netherlands international shares a strong relationship with United boss Louis van Gaal, who left his post with the Dutch national team at the end of this summer's World Cup.
United have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent months, but it is understood that De Jong is seen as the cheaper option.
According to Goal.com, United have made an official offer for the 29-year-old and are confident of concluding a deal.
Should De Jong arrive, he would become United's third major signing of the summer.
