Peter Schmeichel has conceded that he would "absolutely love" to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a Manchester United shirt next season.
There have been mixed messages regarding a potential Old Trafford switch for the Swedish frontman over the last 24 hours.
A report in France claimed that United had offered the 34-year-old a 12-month deal, although that suggestion has since been refuted by the player's agent.
However, Schmeichel has urged the club to do all that they can to bring Ibrahimovic to the Premier League, having insisted that he could have similar impact to the one made by his former teammate Eric Cantona in 1992.
"I would absolutely love him to come to Manchester United. I have said for a long time that he is a guy that was born to play for Manchester United," the ex-goalkeeper told Sky Sports News.
"Like a Cantona kind of player, someone that can inspire all the guys in the dressing room.
"More importantly, he can inspire the supporters. Every time he gets the ball, people will get excited and that's what it's all about."
Malmo-born Ibrahimovic has spent the last four seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, during which time he scored 154 goals in 179 appearances.
